This monument honoring the patriots of the local Revolutionary skirmish, the "Battle of the Bees," is located at the McIntyre Farm north of Charlotte. It was the first monument erected by the Mecklenburg Chapter and was recently refurbished by the chapter.

Organized on September 27, 1898, Mecklenburg Chapter, NSDAR was the first chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the State of North Carolina.  The historic Mecklenburg Chapter charter meeting was held at the home of Mary Dewey Osborne (Mrs. F.I. Osborne) and led by our State Founding Regent Harriet Nesbit Latta (Mrs. Edward Dilworth Latta) who was known for her outstanding leadership abilities. Because of the perseverance and enthusiasm of Mrs. Latta and the fourteen charter members, it became necessary to add other chapters.

Under Mrs. Latta's leadership, the first five NSDAR chapters in the State of North Carolina were founded.  The date of the chartering meeting was selected to commemorate the anniversary of the Revolutionary Battle of Charlotte which was fought on September 26, 1780.  Our first Mecklenburg Chapter Regent was Mary Anna Morrison Jackson, wife of famed Confederate General, T. J. “Stonewall” Jackson.  Our chapter’s first monument was erected at the McIntyre Farm in honor of  the “Battle of the Bees,” October 3, 1780.  The McIntyre Farm monument was also the first DAR monument in the State of North Carolina.
